Editorial Standards
These standards govern accuracy, independence and the way Cross World News labels its journalism.
Accuracy
We aim to verify significant facts before publication. When a fact cannot be confirmed, the story says so. Headlines and standfirsts must not go beyond the evidence in the article. Numbers, names, titles and quotations are checked against the source we cite.
Independence
Editors decide what to report. Advertisers, sponsors and outside interests do not select stories, approve copy or suppress coverage. If commercial material appears on the site, it is labelled and kept apart from the news.
Attribution
Straight news is written in a calm, precise style. Analysis, explainers and opinion are identified as such and carry a byline. We name sources whenever we can. Anonymous sourcing is used only when the information matters and the source has a sound reason not to be named.
Corrections
A significant error is corrected in public. The story keeps its original address, and the correction is visible to readers. The full process is set out in our corrections policy.
